Well if you haven’t… what have you been living under?

The history of edibles has culturally dated back to around 1500 BCE in India, where Cannabis would be infused into drinks mostly for medicinal purposes.

Recently however (we’re talking in the last 150 years), a lady by the name of Alice B Toklas published a recipe for “Haschich Fudge” in her French Cuisine cookbook. Given to Alice by her friend, the recipe was published all over the world. The original recipe comes from Morocco and was more commonly known as Majoun (mar-june).

As you might guess… the book was a hit! Except over in America where the famous cookbook was stripped of it’s Canna recipe. That was until the mid 1960’s when the book was republished just in time for the Hippie Gen, with the fudge recipe ready for reading.

And that was it. That one recipe sparked a movement for all the potential consumption of Cannabis. It was so popular that, as it was passed around, it was modified to replace or discard some of the Moroccan ingredients that were difficult to find in other parts of the world. And so, the Pot Brownies were born.

The popularity of edibles grew fast because of their powerful high’s, long duration and incredible taste. Eating Cannabis, compared to smoking is a much healthier way of consuming your buds. Not in its raw state though – that’s major Stoner energy.

But what makes them so damn good?

Cannabis is most compatible with fats and alcohol. Which basically means that THC will only bind with those two substances.

But whether your buying them from your local dispensary or making some of your own at home; the range of cannabis infused products are unlimited. Anything from seasonings to baked goodies, wines and beers, sweet or savory, Cannabis can be infused into anything with an alcohol or fat content.

When Cannabis is ingested it takes a lot longer for the effects to be felt. Your body has to digest the edible just like regular food. When the edible is broken down, THC is released into our blood stream. This causes a stronger, longer high that can be felt throughout your whole body. This is totally different to the way Cannabis is delivered into our systems when we smoke and the reason why nobody tells you to smash more than 1/2 or 1/4 of a brownie at once.

Usually it is recommended that the consumer wait at least 60 minutes for the initial onset to kick in, before having another bite. Quality of the Edible will depend on the quality and quantity of Cannabis used in the infusion AND the amount eaten. Even though ingested Cannabis takes longer for a psychoactive experience to be felt, you can expect that feeling to usually last up to 4 hours.

If we had you at “SHEDibles” and you want to try your own creations… There are a ton of recipes for Canna Butter on Google. Making your own Canna Butter is a great way to kick off your Edible journey. It’s simple to understand and you can substitute it for any recipe that requires normal butter. Even if you just end up putting it on your toast… it will be worth it.

Consumption methods differ all over the world. Finding what methods works well for you is the most important thing. What suits your needs better and most importantly what gets you HIGH!
